The 2020 Festival – What’s Happening

With the current COVID-19 crisis it is a little hard to predict the exact situation at the end of August when the 2020 Conwy River Festival is scheduled to take place. The organising committee is keeping a very close eye on the developing situation and the Government Advice, so these decisions may change over time.

Racing Weekend

The racing weekend is currently scheduled to be held on the 22nd and 23rd August.

At this stage we are still planning to go ahead with the racing, which will include a full programme: The racing and larger cruising classes out in Conwy Bay, Nobbys, Gaffers and Classics in the Bay, and day boats / small cruisers in the River.

This of course assumes the current tight lockdown rules have been somewhat relaxed by then.

LA-LA Rally Weekend

The LA-LA Rally is currently scheduled to be held on the 29th / 30th / 31st August.

We are hoping to run it this year, but by its nature it involves social gathering so we have not made any decision as yet. We may consider an ‘anchoring off + beach barbecue’ style of event rather than the now traditional Caernarfon Town, we will keep you posted.

Social Events

Currently it looks unlikely that we will be able to hold the usual social events. This includes the daily prize giving events for the racing at the sailing clubs, town-based social events on the LA-LA Rally or the main prize giving at the end of the Festival.

Berthing

Again, provisionally and pending the COVID-19 situation, entrants to the Conwy River Festival will be eligible for berthing at Conwy Marina between 21st and 31st August 2020 inclusive for £10/night. Berthing will be subject to availability, must be arranged directly with the Marina, and will be subject to confirmation of entry.

Alternatively, berthing in the harbour will be arranged by the Harbour Office.

Please do not apply for berthing just yet, until the situation stabilises and we open registrations for the Festival.

Costs and Signups

We will open the signup forms for the Festival later in the year. If we are unable to go ahead with the social events, the event is likely to have a much reduced cost of £10 per boat this year.

Thank you to our 2019 Sponsors

Press Release – Conwy River Festival 2018

We missed the fun of the Conwy River Festival last year.  So it is BACK.

On the 14th July we will be racing and cruising in Conwy Bay and winning prizes.

The fun begins on the 14th and continues throughout the 15th. With the famous LaLa rally to Caernarfon and a suitable beach scheduled for the 20th 21st and 22nd July. The LaLa will be suitable for PowerBoats as well as the yachting fraternity.

The racing will be open to all classes and skill levels. The lightweight speedy racers, heavy Morecambe Bay Prawners, traditional Gaff Rigged yachts and the gorgeous Conway One Designs will all be competing. The Conway One Designs will be on the river wowing the spectators on the quay on Saturday and again on Sunday. In the afternoon they will be joined by the Cruiser Racers, Prawners, Gaff Rigged Yachts and Powerboats for an extravagant Parade of Sail. We have a generous prize fund. With princely prizes to the value of £1,500 to be shared between the 3 top finishers in each racing class.

The Conwy River Festival is for everyone and we are hoping for a good turnout.

Entry fees will be inexpensive and it will cost only £10 to participate in all the racing events. To take part in the much loved LaLa will be just £10.

Discounted berthing for the Marinas is an added bonus. A weekend entrant can put the boat to bed for the night for as little as £10.

Quay Day, a great family affair is on Saturday 14th July. Fairground rides, market stalls selling loads of goodies will be there for everyone to enjoy.

The social events and briefing for the races will begin on Friday 13th. There will also be a social event after every race on Saturday the 14th and Sunday 15th and a briefing for the LaLa on Thursday  the 19th.

The final prize giving will be celebrated with entertainment and food on 22nd July on the return of the LaLa Cruise.
